Aware of the difficulties encountered by young artists at the threshold of their profession, the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne has therefore decided to create the ideal conditions which will allow them to begin their career on the opera stage. The International Singing Competition of Clermont-Ferrand, which is held at the Opéra-Théâtre every two years and brings together jurors chosen for their competence and commitment to opera singing, has the distinctive feature of offering prizes, mainly in the form of professional contracts for works programmed by the Centre lyrique and its partners. This is therefore an audition intended exclusively for professional pursuits, and which now attracts nearly 400 singers in each edition. The first selection, based on application, allows one hundred singers to participate in the elimination rounds. The final round offers the opportunity to assess all the desired qualities, role by role, and establish the casting.

In addition to the professional engagements which constitute the value of this Competition, several special prizes are awarded: the Young Hope Award from the French Center of Lyrical Promotion, the Bernard Plantey Audience Award given by the audience at the final, the City of Clermont-Ferrand Young Audience Award, and the Royaumont Foundation Winner Prize, each valued at 1,000€.

This 25th anniversary edition, which is particularly prestigious, will witness expanded partnerships between the Centre lyrique and various Operas, Festivals and lyrical Institutions, while the jury will be chaired by a leading figure of the opera world: Raymond Duffaut, President of the French Center of Lyrical Promotion and Artistic Advisor of the Opera Grand Avignon.

From 28 February to 4 March 2017, at the heart of two opera seasons which feature the theme « A world tour ... » this 25th edition of the International Singing Competition will play on excellence by illuminating the music of Mozart, Zemlinsky, Mahler, Schubert, Strauss ... which will lead us, in Clermont-Ferrand, to the banks of the Danube!

A few winners from past editions: Maria Grazia Schiavo, Florian Laconi, Elsa Dreisig Armando Noguera, Cyril Auvity, Anna Kasyan, Julien Dran, Cyril Dubois, Elizabeth Williams ...
